In 2012, John Buckley became a victim of Kentucky-based justice, convicted of a crime based upon his combat experience. The verdict was reached by denying John the right to defend himself through expansive court rulings. Please help! More

John Calvin Buckley is my beloved nephew.  A former lover’s betrayal resulted in this decorated veteran spending his days locked in solitary confinement. Prison authorities refuse him much-needed medical care, and deny him the human rights he risked his life to defend. John was convicted of rape after his angry ex-lover reported one of their many “50 Shades” encounters as non-consensual – which he vehemently denies. In fact, he passed a polygraph examination, by a retired FBI examiner  , which asked very pointed questions about that relationship. Unlike Christian Grey in the movie, John wasn’t wise enough to insist on a signed consent form.

John was a member of the U.S. Army’s elite 3rd Ranger Battalion and saw his first combat 40 days after the 9-11 attacks. He served from August 2000 through December 2005 and earned combat citations and a Purple Heart in deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. There he suffered Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Upon his honorable discharge, the VA concluded John was 100% service-connected disabled.

In 2009, John Calvin became a victim of Kentucky justice, starting with an encounter with an off-duty Lexington KY police detective who, without being provoked, became so aggressive that John felt the need to draw his legal handgun. John was brought up on charges, but
totally cleared by a Grand Jury in less than 5 minutes.

Within an hour of the result, John’s lawyer was called by a police contact in the area and told “No one pulls a gun on a cop in Lexington and gets away with it.”

How that incident became the start of a revenge-based Kentucky justice and John’s road to prison--and the horror story that he lives now with his inhumane treatment by prison officials--is described at the family’s website, JusticeForJohnBuckley.com  We have already gone to incredible lengths, in vain, to try to get prison officials to change their treatment of John and now we need your help! At the website, learn more about how you can personally pressure decision-makers in Kentucky to re-open this case. This man is an American hero, who will rot in prison for almost four decades for a crime he didn't commit.

Our family currently has $310,000+ in this case. We have given our all in this fight and run our funds dry. However, we do have an older veteran who has agreed to match what we generate from this funding effort, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000. So, dependent upon our response, we will get an extra $10,000 to aid in John's appeal efforts. Effectively, we start with that amount, as long as we can raise at least that much with your help.

We are setting this fund @ $75,000, but in truth will probably need much more to secure the best lawyer for John's appeal. I ask you to please consider for a moment if this was your child, your brother, or another family member--how helpless you might feel to help them, and how hopeless they would feel being in prison for a crime they didn't commit. Any amount you can give will help, and I can’t express how thankful we are for your support!

The Buckley Family feels very hopeful and we are energized by the media attention thus far. As more people are exposed to this story and the truth of John's wrongful conviction, the prospects of John's freedom grow brighter and more possible, Please forward this campaign to your friends, thru social media and every other avenue.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider our plea!
